My first song ever produced completely by yours truly. It started as a little piano tune with somewhat melancholy lyrics describing the pains of aging that contrast the more upbeat sound of the instrumental element. I was also listening to alot of Beach Boys at the time ( and thru my life in general) which inspired the Brian Wilson-ish layered harmonies for interludes. Instruments are sublime in layering, eluding to the main melody and to compliment the mid tempo rhythm sections groove.
lyrics
My hands have lost their hold
I lost my grip on the task at bay
Failing to do what there meant to do
Muscles in your body wither away
I'm rusted and wearing I'm drying up
I'm heavy and sloppy a leaking cup
I'm wise and weary I'm a tired pup
The party is over the party is over
I feel my head
Slap me in the face
All the choices my beating heart makes
So here we go - we go around -
That same ole sun again
Voices in my head when will they end
Look alive
YOu need to walk thru the door
A 30 minute country road drive
Misty hills and curvy streets
Hear the stereo sounding
Put on that smile pretend your head isn't pounding
Bones no longer bend but break
You will find it hard just to tie your shoe
Somehow absolved in an aging face
The knowledge of tommorow just a moment away
